Utila Honduras Liveaboard Scuba Diving Holiday

Welcome to Utila, Honduras Central America

Price band: ££££

“Unspoiled” might be the best way to describe Utila. Located approximately 18 miles off the north coast of mainland Honduras, Utila is the smallest and least developed of the three main Bay Islands.

It has historically been a fishing based community, still largely practiced by the community in the nearby Keys. A lush canopy of pine, mango, almond, and palm trees covers most of the island, providing a haven for tropical birds, rare lizards and iguanas. A hill on the northeast coast dominates the landscape and is named Pumpkin Hill for its round, sloping shape. It is the largest and most visible hill on the island, a rumoured lookout point for pirates in the old days!

Remote sea mounts, which are thriving underwater cities, wrecks covered in brilliantly colored corals and sheer, plunging walls are just the highlights of your discovery during a Utila Aggressor adventure.

Sample Itinerary

Saturday afternoon: Any guests arriving prior to Saturday should make their own way to the Utila Water Sports dock. Boarding time is anytime after 2:00 p.m. At 3:00 p.m., guests are met at the San

Pedro Sula Airport and transferred to the Utila charter flight planes for a scenic, 30 minute flight to Utila. Guests arriving on the charter flights from San Pedro Sula are greeted at the Utila Airport and transferred to the yacht.

Saturday evening, the chef will serve a delicious dinner followed by a welcome briefing, which outlines the week’s exciting schedule.

Sunday: Dive briefing! The Captain begins the week with fabulous diving near Blackish Point and Old House. All dives are conveniently made from the swim platform of the mothership. A skiff is available for any shore excursions.

Most guests enjoy up to five dives each day—only stopping for one of the many scrumptious meals or between-dive snacks served aboard the mothership. Night dives are offered every evening.

Monday & Tuesday: The journey continues north with a stop at the remote Coco’s Sea Mounts, where the ocean floor rises from hundreds of feet to only 40 feet from the surface. These sea mounts are far from Utila and Roatan, therefore, they are rarely visited by day boat divers. After exploring Coco’s, Utila Aggressor divers sample Roatan’s southwest and west end sites.

Wednesday & Thursday: After diving Roatan’s Taviana, Dolphin Caves and Wreck of the Aguila, the Aggressor heads west to Utila.

Friday: The final dives of the week are Friday morning at Cannary Bank. After lunch on the Aggressor, it is time to rinse and pack dive gear and download photos. Any onboard charges, such as gear rental, dive courses, boutique purchases, are settled on Friday.

At 1:00 p.m., the boat docks at Utila Water Sports. Later that evening, the crew hosts a 5:30 p.m. cocktail party. The crew will assist you with your dinner reservations and arrange transportation to a local Utila restaurant. The Friday night meal is not included in the charter.

Saturday morning check-out: At 8:00 a.m., guests are transferred to the Utila Airport for the charter flight to San Pedro Sula.

Itinerary may vary due to weather conditions and yacht location.

Dive Sites

Coco’s Sea Mounts - Coco’s beauty is in the mix of coral and good visibility that divers always enjoy.

Mary’s Place – One of the most famous dive sites off of the south side of Roatan, Mary’s Place has a lush reef with crevasses and tunnels running through it that provide great photo opportunities.

Taviana’s Wall - Lots of turtles are here and this site makes a great night dive with octopus, crabs and lobsters.

Wreck of the Aquila- This 8-year-old wreck is home to 15 - 20 large Groupers and a big blue Parrot Fish, as well as a big green Moray Eel that is always willing to come out and play.

Black Hills – A favorite among all divers, you can count on seeing schools of Creole Wrasse, Atlantic Spadefish, Horse-eye Jack and Southern Sennets at this seamount, along with Scorpionfish, Toadfish and the rare Frog Fish. A resident turtle appears unafraid of divers, as do the Barracuda. Large pelagic fish can be spotted here, such as Manta Rays, Marlin, and sharks including the big boy himself, the Whale Shark!

Duppy Waters – A coral garden begins beneath the boat at 20 feet, with walls sloping off into the blue. Eagle Rays, stingrays, octopus and schools of Creole Wrasse and Blue Tang are in abundance.

CJ’s Drop-off - This is one for the deep dive enthusiast. Spiny Caribbean Lobster, Golden Tail Moray and schools of Jack are plentiful.

Raggedy Cay – This popular site begins at 10m and falls away to 40m, with Majestic Eagle Rays swooping by and Hawksbill Turtles munching away on soft corals. Octopus can be found around the sand channels along the coral garden as well as Spotted Morays.

Old Bank – This is a very nice shallow dive site, where the rare Elkhorn Coral flourishes and smaller critters, like the Fringed Filefish and Caribbean Reef Squid, can be seen along the walls. In the sandy areas, the allusive Yellowhead Jawfish can be spotted peering out of its hole.

Cannery Bank – Here’s a prime opportunity to witness large pelagic fish that roam the open waters. There are logs of vibrant color on the mounts, beginning at 9m and sloping to 30m.

Jack Neil Point – Sand, walls and individual coral heads make this a must dive. Long snout Seahorse, Large-eye Toadfish, Flying Gurnards, and octopus make this one of the area’s best night dives.

Halliburton Wreck – Sunk in 1998, this artificial reef begins at 65 feet with the wheelhouse and continues down to the vessel bottom at 30m. Green Morays, Spotted Drum, Yellowline Arrow Crabs,

Channel Clinging Crabs and Bearded Fire Worms are usually seen on this exceptional deep dive, as well as the occasional Porcupine Fish and Pipefish.

Hawksbill Bank – The Utila Aggressor is the only visitor to this seamount beginning at 12m and sloping down to 25m. Bluebell tunicates are in abundance, and the rare Fingerprints can also be found. A resident Hawksbill turtle gives the site its name.
