The tiny nation of Belize lies on the Caribbean coast of Central America. The Belize Barrier Reef, measuring 280km in length, is the longest in the Northern Hemisphere and the second largest in the world. There are over 500 species of fish, 3 varieties of of nesting sea turtles, and one of the largest populations of West Indian manatees.

Belize is renowned for it's three massive coral atolls; Turneffe Island Atoll, Lighthouse Reef and Glover's Reef. One of the main attractions for advanced divers is the Blue Hole, a massive circular cavern measuring over 300m and 125m deep, located about 80km east of the Belize coast within the Lighthouse Reef. It has been a "must-see on the global diving scene for the last 35 years, ever since Jacques Cousteau brought it to international  acclaim. As the extreme southern end of the Turneffe Island Atoll is the 'Elbow' - a wall-dive with a 900m drop below. The reefs that surround the five islands that make up Glover's Reef Atoll have been delineated as a marine nature reserve. Shark Ray Alley, located in the southern end of the Hol Chan Marine Reserve (HCMR), is famed for its large animal encounters, including docile nurse sharks and southern sting rays.

Belize is also home to ancient Mayan Temples and lush tropical rainforests that house a multitude of wildlife from colourful birds to stealthy Jaguars, so why not include a few extra days to your trip and explore inland Belize?
